Pre-requisites: Knowledge of foreign languages - to work with/access contemporary texts, use of computer and internet.

Course objectives: To develop a strong understanding of a chosen topic, not previously addressed in undergrad studies; intro to contemporary literature and research possibilities on the topic.

Course description: Theoretical component:the course content will be determined in conjunction with student's knowledge, interests and needs. Suggested topics:Renaissance, protestantism, reformation, Baroque period, enlightenment, history of mediterranean peoples and international relations, culture of daily life and cultural mentality in the mediterranean, the american revolution, assimilation and multiculturalism in the US, US religious history, history of american daily life, american culture, history of jazz, US in international relations.

Learning Outcomes: Acquiring skills and knowledge for the chosen topic that will be useful in student's future career, especially concerning research processes. A deeper understanding of modernity and modern culture.
