Pre-requisites: The course is to be attended by students majoring in History of art enrolled in their third year of a Bachelor’s degree during the fifth semester.

Course objectives: The goal of the course is to introduce students to fundamental concepts of Serbian art and visual cultures of new century.

Course description: The content of the course is based on analyzing the most important poetic principles as well as the authors of Serbian new century art. Students will be introduced to the most significant trends in Serbian visual cultures form early years of the new century till the end of the “extended XIX century”. The course will also study the work and life of major actors of Serbian visual culture of this period such as: Hristofor Dzefaroviæ, Jov Vasilijeviè, Dimitrije Baèeviæ, Janko Halkozoviæ, Stefan Tenecki, Zaharije Orfelin, Jakov Orfelin, Teodor Kraèun, Arsa Teodoroviæ, Pavel Ðurkoviæ, Aleksije Lazoviæ, Janja Moler, Dièa Zograf, Uroš Kneževiæ, Dimitrije Avramoviæ, Pavle Simiæ, Anastas Jovanoviæ, Nikola Markoviæ, Steva Todoroviæ, Ðorðe Krstiæ, Uroš Prediæ, Paja Jovanoviæ, etc. The methodical segment of the course classified according to the most important poetic principles of Serbian visual cultures of the new century. The poetic of visual culture from baroque to academism and symbolism is also the part of the course study.

Learning Outcomes: The course is designed to enables students in understanding fundamental trends and concepts of Serbian art and visual cultures of the new century, as well as applying the acquired knowledge in practice.
