Serbian Art during the Reign of Nemanjici II (Bachelor’s Degree)

Pre-requisites: The prerequisite for this course is the attendance to the first four semesters of a Bachelor’s degree in History of Art.

Course objectives: The goal of the course is to acquire students with knowledge about the development and characteristics of Serbian medieval art from the establishment of autocephalous Serbian Church in the period of totally falling under the Byzantine influences during the period of reign of King Milutin to the downfall of the Serbian Empire.

Course description: The content of the program is based on a general review of history of Serbian medieval art since the establishment of autocephalous Serbian Church and the period of totally falling under the Byzantine influences during the period of reign of King Milutin to the downfall of Serbian Empire. The practical segment of the course is oriented towards introducing individual pieces of art though museum practice, Gallery of Frescoes, field on-site work and electronic data base.

Learning Outcomes: The course is designed to acquire students with knowledge to identify, understand and interpret pieces of Serbian medieval art created throughout the period from 1299 to 1371.
