Pre-requisites: The student is obligated to attend the lectures in accordance with the rules of the Faculty of Philosophy Statute.

Course objectives: The goal of the course is to acquire students with basic knowledge about fundamental architectural elements, types and basic elements of Christian temples, mass service objects and its purpose, as well as about the iconography and symbolic of eastern and western Christianity.

Course description: The program of the course is divided into several sections, depending on the subject matter. The first section of the course offers the systematical review of types of sacral constructions, basic architectural elements and elements of Christian temples. The second section of the course is concerned with the term of icons, their purpose, use and history, iconostas, the mass service objects, books, and painted ornamentals in books. The largest section of the course is focused on studying iconography and symbolism of eastern and western Christianity, their dialects, and the manners in introducing certain saints, cycles and customs.

Learning Outcomes: The course is designed to enable the students to master the fundamental terms from architecture and symbolism and iconography of eastern and western painting art.
