Pre-requisites: Prerequisites for attending graduate (master’s degree) programme are prescribed by the Statute of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade.

Course objectives: The goal of the course is acquiring further knowledge concerning all the important aspects of the visual culture dated from the rise of the Roman Empire until the end of the rule of the Emperor Justinian I.

Course description: The theoretical segment of the course concerns presentations with reference to diverse aspects of roman and late antique art, while acquiring common and fundamental characteristics within the narrowed time periods. The main focus will be put on changes visible in works of art, whether paintings, sculpture or architectural monuments. The practical section of the course is oriented towards encouraging students to make their own presentations concerning the topics of special interest for them.

Learning Outcomes: The course is designed to introduce students with trends in roman and late antique art, as well as with historical, social and other different circumstances under which visual culture changed during this period, marked by the transition of roman religion into Christianity.
