History of the serbian people in the early middle ages

Pre-requisites: No special requirements

Course objectives: Gaining knowledge and understanding of the history of the Serbian people in the early middle ages. An introduction to historical sources on the history of the early middle ages. Developing critical thinking and representing differing views through argument.

Course description: Theoretical component: looking at major historical sources and archives of the history of the Serbs in the middle ages. Key questions on the history of the Serbian people in the early middle ages. Practical component: The migrating of the southern Slavs to the Balkan peninsula, relations between the Southern Slavs and Byzantine Empire, relations between the Southern Slavs and Avars, migration of the Serbs to the Balkan peninsula, the first Serbian ruling dynasties, uprisings on the Balkan peninsula in the 10th and 11th century; Bosnia in the early middle ages, Serbian dynasties in the 12th century.

Learning Outcomes: An understanding of the basic events, processes and phenomena from the history of the Serbs. An introduction to the methodology of work regarding documentary and narrative sources. Learning how to write papers, historical essays and power point presentations.
