Course objectives: An introduction to the most important issues and opportunities facing the Serbs under turkish rule, particularly through addressing phenomena not thoroughly addressed in contemporary historiography: economic, demographic events,acculturation and daily life.

Course description: Theoretical component:lecture on major issues and developments in the history of the Serbian people under the Turks - problems and influences surrounding continuity and discontinuity of serbian society, demographic rises and falls, migration patterns, factors of social organization(autonomy of the dukedom in the majority of serbian territories and nobility in Herzegovina and Monte Negro), external influences on daily life and acculturation, including the issue of islamization. Practical component:evaluating particular issues through preserved and unpreserved(depending on students capacity for this type of research)historical sources and documents, particularly legal artifacts and economic writings. The goal is for students to be able to conduct independent work, scientific argumentation and critical assessment of sources and literature, as well as present their findings in written and oral form.

Learning Outcomes: Students will be gain a long-term base of knowledge for critically assessing questions in the history of the Serbs under turkish rule and be prepared for independent work in the field and writing short scientific papers.
