History of the Serbian people in the late Middle Ages

Pre-requisites: Meeting all class responsibilities - regular class and lab attendance, papers and (colloquim) exams.

Course objectives: To study the main currents and developments in the history of the serbian people in the late middle ages, from the 13th to the middle of the 15th century. The focus of lectures and labs will be on historiography and sources that are available in literature, especially ones that are less accessible to students.

Course description: The theoretical component of this class consists of lectures on the historiography of the middle ages and examines source related to the development of Serbia, from the 13th-15th century. The practical component consists of labs. The goal is for students to learn to independently work with texts on all topics related to the subject, to master basic historical methodology of the middles ages through individual work on sources (reading, translating and critiqueing sources while validating the truthfulness of historical facts and conclusions).

Learning Outcomes: Students will gain an understanding of historical processes and the natural development of serbian society in the middle ages; the role of Serbia amidst other european nations of the time. Students will develop critical opinions and further their skills as historians.
