This anthology grew out of the International Conference on Literature and Psychology, held at the University of Belgrade in July 2007. It is dedicated to Norman N. Holland, preeminent scholar of the psychoanalytic study of the arts, and a founder of these yearly conferences, on the occasion of his 80th birthday. This collection represents a fresh instance of the vitality of current conversations among academics and clinicians in psychoanalysis and the arts. It brings together scholars from the US, Australia, England, France, Denmark, Netherlands, Hungary, and Serbia, whose theoretical expertise ranges from Freud to Lacan to Kristeva, from reader-response to object-relations to neuroscience, and whose subjects include folktale, myth, poetry, drama, novel, film, and psychoanalytic theory. Altogether the volume presents a lively exchange among contemporaries, and a fair representation of the current state of psychoanalytic criticism world-wide.

David Willbern, Emeritus Professor of English
at the State University of New York at Buffalo

[A]ny reader would find all the papers in this volume worth reading. Those familiar with psychoanalysis will get support and high-quality information about current psychoanalytic thinking. Those still "on the road" will find plenty of stimuli for learning and understanding. Everyone should expect an encounter with a challenging volume, whose mosaic structure comprehends a great deal of contemporary psychoanalysis, providing at the same time material for fresh reconsiderations, questionings, and reorientations. The form and contents of the volume are of the highest quality.

Professor Tomislav Sedmak, MD,
